Robyn - My R's last name has the dreaded umlaut. Which also means it's spelled differently in the US and Switzerland because the US, in all it's wisdom, "cannot accommodate" symbols on passports. (Really? In the 21st century? Shoot, my laptop "accommodates" symbols.) So the boys' have, for example, Bärr on their Swiss passports and Baerr on their US passports and social security cards. (That's not our real last name, btw). Which is both annoying and kind of insulting like hey, just make up a new name, it's not like it's over 500 years old or anything.

Vicky - welcome! How did you find me?

Oh you poor thing! If it helps, I had ONE vial of blood taken last week and nearly keeled over afterwards. But then, I can be a bit of wimp with these kind of things...Hope it all turns out OK - at least you're in good hands with the Swiss Health System.

One of my reasons for not taking Reto's surname was that I couldn't (/can't) pronounce it properly either. Now we have an ambiguous sort of surname that is clearly not Swiss (particularly in the german part, people always look stragely at Reto when he says his whole name because "Reto" is so Swiss and our surname is so not), the pronunciation of which changes with the audience.

Good luck with your blood.
