I’ve grown to love the sound of Swiss – it’s so lilting and musical compared to High German.

It’s funny because Small Boy has a Swiss accent when he speaks English – everybody says so. It’s not supposed to work that way when you raise children bi-lingual: they’re supposed to learn each language with the native accent, all the books say so, but everybody tells me Small Boy has SUCH a Swiss accent when he speaks English (Swiss and US friends tell me this). The funny thing is, I don’t hear it.

So adorable. And such a big boy!

I spent a year in Uberlingen (Germany) and it’s so funny for me to read your Swiss-German translations. It’s such an amalgamation of French & German with that little twist at the end–the e sound. It makes me want to be there again, my inner ear hungry for a language I almost learned fluently.
